My first blog post

In 8th grade I was known to ask random questions saying "I was just wondering..." and my friends would look at me like I was the strangest person ever. Somehow the habit never left and I am still left with random questions.

My first question is why do people blog? Why do we feel the need to share our thoughts with other people? Is it the attention? Is it the belief that we will inspire others or possibly share a common concern? Is it that we're lonely and need someone to listen to us? Or is it sheer boredom?

Well either way, I've "drank the koolaid" and have started my first blog.

Topic of today's post is key phrases. In corporate world there are some phrases which get repeated over and over and you really wonder why we let these phrases spread further. How can we make them stop?

Here are a few:
  • "Net net" - you only have to say net once!
  • "Drank the koolaid" - koolaid - really? everytime someone says that I imagine a big jug jumping through a wall
  • "End to End" - why not start to finish?
  • "Low Hanging Fruit" - wasn't it the low hanging fruit which caused Adam and Eve to get thrown out from heaven? Why not say the easy things in front of us?
  • "Do you have a minute?" - You never really want a minute. Why lie? Just say can I please waste some of your time?
  • "To make a long story short" - If you start with that then your story will definitely not be short.
I can go on but it's late and I have to go to work tomorrow to hear more fun phrases. I'll be sure to add to this list!

Goodnight!
